bamboo and ferns in peruvian rainforest

A big shout-out to my niece, Jennifer M. Jacobs, and her husband, Rudolf von May, for their great article on biodiversity in the Amazon’s bamboo jungle, “Forests of Grass” in the 12/11-1/12 issue of Natural History magazine. Jenny is a doctoral student in the Dept. of Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley, while Rudy is a post-doc.  A few of her great insect photos– her primary focus —  illustrate their article.I’ve heard many stories of Jenny and Rudy’s work in the Amazon — including a big amphibian study in the Madre de Dios region of southern Peru. It’s great to see their work in print!
