Rob Helms, the Sonoma County Trails Council Executive Director, spearheaded a successful set of trail events for Sonoma County on National Trails Day, June 2. The event was a partnership between the Trails Council, Landpaths, Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, CoastWalk, Sonoma County Ag & Open Space District, Sonoma Count Parks, CA State Parks, REI, Marmot, and others. This year’s event included trail stewardship projects at Annadel State Park (53 participants), Hood Mountain Regional Park (40+ participants), Sonoma Coast State Park (20+ participants) and a hike along another part of the Coastal Trail. Then from 2-7, everyone gathered at Julliard Park in Santa Rosa for a party with great organic food and live music from Vinyl, preceded by Steven Pile and Piledrivers. It was a great 1st year showing, but we would have had more attendees for the party if the Press Democrat and other local newspapers had helped get the word out. Next time we’ll just buy an ad…

I was the supervisor for the Annadel project, where we made a lot of finishing touches to the Lawndale Trail. We barely had enough tools and had to press a couple folks into service as crew leaders, but everyone had a great time.
