The Sebastopol Community Band again played for the Memorial Day commemoration at the Sebastopol Memorial Lawn (photo below is from last year’s ceremony — photos for this year’s will be available on the bands website soon). The fog broke just as we began playing before the ceremony began. As usual, the average age of veterans and family was high, but this year the main speaker was Gary Medvigy, a Sonoma County Superior Court Judge who is also deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command. Medgivy urged support and compassion for active and returning vets. He was recently promoted to Brigadier General.

Of all our performances, Memorial Day is the most meaningful and I think we add quite a bit to the ceremony.
