The Community Band once again played for the annual observance held by the local VFW post at the Sebastopol Memorial Lawn. We played a slightly shorter program this year since our conductor, Nate Riebli, wasn’t able to make it; our euphonium player and former conductor, Frank Jilka, led the band from his own stand. Though we’d had rain earlier in the weekend, Monday was dry and warmer than some of our past Memorial Day gigs. The crowd appreciated the event, from our warmup, to the Gettysburg Address recitation, to our trumpet player, Jim Jenkin’s rendition of Taps, to our final, rousing march.

This was our second performance for veterans performance in as many weeks–we played for the first annual Gold Star Mother‘s BBQ at the Santa Rosa Veteran’s Memorial Hall sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America‘s local chapter. It was also a good gig — mostly the same program — with an appreciative audience.
